ADVICE
Most of the mackerel fisheries in the Northeast Atlantic have been certified as environmentally responsible by the Marine Stewardship Council. However there are issues related to quota allocation. To ensure that mackerel you buy is from a sustainable fishery look for caught in the Southwest handline fishery or the drift net fishery in the Eastern English Channel. These traditional methods are highly selective and catch low volumes of fish compared to the larger pelagic trawlers and purse seiners
